For the first time in its history, WPO (World Packaging Organisation – www.worldpackaging.org)will participate at UN’s Clime Conference, the COP 28, in Dubai. The Organization will be represented by the President, Luciana Pellegrino in the Panel ‘The role of sustainable food packaging and processing in achieving food security’, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on December 9 from 16:00 to 17:30 (GMT +4). The Panel will raise the discussion on the role of packaging advancement and will showcase examples of best practices and available technology, including circular and recyclable packaging as well as soft-electrons technologies.
Speakers will discuss how sustainable food packaging and processing can influence post-harvest food losses and waste, value addition, export, footprint, and policies that support a sustainable food system. “This is the first time WPO is on the stage at COP, a very important moment not only for WPO but also to the global packaging community. At COP 28 we will have the opportunity to raise the voice for packaging and share knowhow and data on how packaging makes a positive impact in society: either by bringing efficiency to supply chains or safety to consumers, and also by reducing waste and the carbon footprint related to it”, explains Luciana Pellegrino.
She adds: “WPO at COP 28 is also a big step in the strategy of turning the Organisation and its members into the voice for the packaging industry around the globe. Thanks a lot for UNIDO, specially Ali Badarneh, Division Chief at UNIDO Austria, and Aleksa Mirkovic, for giving this opportunity to WPO”.
Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, IAEA, will conduct the opening remarks. Other speakers besides Luciana are: Dejene Tezera, Director of the Department of Agribusiness Development, UNIDO; Habiba Al’Mar’Arshi, Chairperson, Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a WPO member; Nidal Haddad, Chief Executive Officer, Al Bayader; and Martin Krause, Director of the Division of Programme Support and Coordination, IAEA.
Gunther Beger, Managing Director and Directorate for SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation, UNIDO, will conduct the closing remarks and Soha Atallah, WPO Vice President Events will moderate the Panel.
