According to data provided by Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM), exports of Türkiye increased by 13.6 percent in February compared to the same period of last year and resulted in an export value of 21 billion dollars. The chemicals industry that achieved an export value of 2.6 billion dollars became the second industry to export the most in February and received 15 percent share of national exports.
Commenting on export figures of the chemicals industry in February, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) Adil Pelister said: “In February our chemicals industry achieved an export value of 2.6 billion dollars with a 15 percent increase, receiving 12.4 percent share of national exports, becoming the second highest exporter sector. The devastating earthquake disaster we had in the last February negatively affected our exports. In addition, we were also affected by global wars and tensions, inflation, logistics and supply chain problems. Recovery period started in the last quarter of the year. Finally, our country were able to achieve a 4.5 percent growth despite all the challenges. We, as the chemicals industry, completed the year by achieving 30.6 billion dollars of export value. We are pleased with the increase in our exports performance we displayed this year in February after January. We continue to support our exporters active in the chemicals industry with national exhibition participations, hosted buyer and trade delegations, exhibition info visits, trainings and seminars. In February we organized 6 activities simultaneously in 5 countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Spain, and USA. In March we will organize national exhibition organizations at Panama-Expocomer 2024 Exhibition, USA- IHS 2024 Exhibition and Italy – Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna exhibition. We will continue to work to contribute to exports as the strong chemicals industry that adds value to our country with our 16 sub-sectors.”
“Plastics and products” was the highest exported sub-sector in February
In February exports of plastics and products among sub-sectors of chemicals and chemical products reached 767 million 638 thousand dollars in value and occupied the first place. Mineral fuels and products occupied the second place with exports reaching 756 million 438 thousand dollars in value while exports of inorganic chemicals occupied the third place with 229 million 821 thousand dollars in export value. Other sectors in top ten following ‘inorganic chemicals’ were ‘essential oils, cosmetics and soap’, ‘rubber, rubber products’, ‘pharmaceuticals’, ‘paint, varnish, ink and their products’, ‘miscellaneous chemical agents’, ‘cleaning products,’ and ‘organic chemicals’.
Romania became the highest receiver of exports in February
The countries that were the highest receiver of exports in February were Romania, Italy, Holland, USA, Germany, Russia, Iraq, Libya, Belgium, and Lebanon. The highest increase in November among the top 10 countries was to Lebanon with 192.19 percent increase.
