Drupa 2024 Printing and Printing Technologies Fair held in Düsseldorf, Germany during 28 May – 7 June. A total of 1643 companies from 52 countries, including 48 from Turkey, participated in the fair. Türkiye ranked 6th among the participating countries in terms of the number of exhibitors.
Especially the packaging product group attracted attention and 48 Turkish companies and companies and organisations from many sectors exhibited their stands. Within the scope of the Touchpoint Packaging Event, university representatives, designers, suppliers and packaging manufacturers came together.
Alican Duran, Chairman of the Board of Cardboard Packaging Industrialists Association (KASAD), stated that the fair offers an important opportunity to follow new technologies and trends in the sector. It was emphasised that sustainability and technological developments shape the sector. The fair ended on 7 June and provided an opportunity to introduce the innovations in the sector and to evaluate the potentials in the next 10 years. The fair, where cardboard packaging stood out as an important issue in terms of sustainability, was an important platform for the development and competitiveness of the sector.
The sector needs green investment
Alican Duran, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Cardboard Packaging Industrialists (KASAD), stated that investments should be made in digitalisation and sustainability in the printing and printing sector and said, “There are green cycle and green economy norms that Europe has put in front of us, if we do not comply with them, we will not have the chance to be competitive.”
Pointing out that Turkey is a developed country in the printing and packaging sector, Duran said, “Turkey is a net exporter in this sector. Digitalisation and sustainability have become very important in the printing industry. There are very important developments related to recycling and sustainability. We are also examining these. We are looking at what will be beneficial for us in competition. We are trying to shape our future investments accordingly. In order for Turkey to maintain its place in the world and progress, it is necessary to follow the developments and follow the future while making investments.”
Drupa 2024 exhibition shed light on the future of the packaging industry. The fair, where new machines were exhibited, contributed to the development of the sector by bringing together the leading names in the sector. KASAD member Turkish companies participating in the fair successfully completed the fair, believing that the fair will contribute to the acceleration of investments in the second half of the year and 2025.
