Roland DG, the world’s leading provider of digital printing solutions, reveals that it has seen a significant uptick in red and orange ink sales this year following its award-winning 50 Shades of Red campaign – and ahead of Pantone crowning the new 2024 Colour of the Year ‘Peach Fuzz’.
Roland DG EMEA orange and red ink sales have seen year to date growth of 18% versus last year, with a significant increase of sales hitting its peak in June 2023, after its 50 Shades of Red campaign launched at the end of May 2023.
In a brave move to showcase its TrueVIS colour technology, Roland DG launched a redhead revolution earlier this year on World Redhead Day (26th May 2023) with its ‘50 Shades of Red’ campaign – launching a lookbook of shades that finally helped redheads find a way to describe their perfect match. The campaign recently took home the 2023 Grand Prix for best in show at The Drum Awards for B2B and won the B2B Technology Award at the PRCA UK Awards.
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2024 has just been announced as ‘Peach Fuzz’ – a soft, pastel shade that closely mirrors Roland’s own “Fox” colour shade from the 50 Shades Lookbook. The 2023 Colour of the Year was also drawn from the red-end of the colour spectrum with the selection of Viva Magenta, a bright crimson shade.
Lauren Swinnerton, Head of Marketing Communications and Brand EMEA at Roland DG, comments: “2023 was the year of red and orange. Following the brilliant response to our 50 Shades of Red campaign, we have seen red and orange ink sales increase as printers look to meet the demand for the colour from customers. We are glad to see Pantone agree with us with their choice for 2024 Colour of the Year. Although, you heard it here first!”
Earlier this year, Pantone’s Color Institute experts declared that the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Spring 2024 colour palette will also be driven by full bodied reds and fruity oranges. Orangeade (PANTONE 17-1461 TCX) is a sweet and mildly tangy red-orange hue, with a fruity citrus touch which will take centre stage at the biggest event in fashion. This will be beautifully complemented by Rooibos Tea (PANTONE 18-1355 TCX), a full bodied red, imbued with rich, woody notes.
Swinnerton continues: “We are thrilled to see that vibrant, bright and bold shades are captivating both our customers and next year’s fashion and lifestyle trends. Colour is central to expression. At Roland DG, we are incredibly passionate about colour and the print possibilities you can achieve using our colour technology, helping you to create printed products as chic as New York Fashion Week.”
