London-based print innovator F.E. Burman has adopted HP’s PrintOS Creativity Power Pack to amplify its creative capabilities and drive deeper collaboration with designers, agencies, and artists. This investment reflects F.E. Burman’s ambition to push the boundaries of digital print and unlock new opportunities to partner with industry leaders, students, and creatives.
By collaborating with HP, F.E. Burman has transformed its production capabilities, leveraging advanced software like HP SmartStream Designer with its award winning tools like HP Mosaic and HP Spark to unlock new creative and commercial possibilities. The 2024 Fedrigoni 366 project is a standout example, an expansive calendar initiative featuring creatives from across Europe. Every copy was completely unique, with HP Mosaic dynamically shuffling colors and HP Spark generating one-of-a-kind artwork. The project involved over 26 paper substrates and special inks, adding both technical complexity and tactile richness. By supporting variable data printing (VDP), and automating intricate design workflows, the Creativity Power Pack allowed F.E. Burman to deliver this prestigious piece with unmatched precision and efficiency.
By integrating the HP Indigo 12000 and HP Indigo 7900 Digital Presses with the Creativity Power Pack, F.E. Burman was able to automate workflows and simplify complex tasks like impositions, VDP, and the creative tools. Handling a project of this magnitude involved overcoming significant logistical challenges, including managing over 2 million files and coordinating the use of multiple specialty inks like Indichrome Orange and Green. HP’s smart software solutions played a crucial role in streamlining this complexity, enabling a smooth and efficient execution from start to finish. In doing so, it also showcased the commercial advantage of custom, high-quality applications, enabling F.E. Burman to reach new markets, attract diverse clients, and expand its footprint in the creative and commercial print space.
The benefits of this investment extend beyond client delivery. F.E. Burman has made educational outreach a core part of its mission, working closely with students to provide hands-on experience with advanced digital print technologies. By exposing them to the full spectrum of the print process, the company equips students with technical skills while encouraging creative exploration. These interactions have become a source of mutual inspiration: students bring bold ideas and unconventional perspectives, often reimagining how tools like HP Mosaic and HP Spark can be used in new ways. In turn, F.E. Burman strengthens its role as a hub for emerging talent and innovation within the print industry.
“Fedrigoni did an exceptional job bringing together a vast group of creatives from across Europe. Fedrigoni 366 is perhaps the largest collaboration of its kind, particularly in its technological execution using HP Mosaic. We are incredibly proud to be part of this project. For our artwork, we centered our design around the concept of color shuffle, ensuring it meaningfully expressed the generative design action. It was an exciting challenge to create an identity-driven piece that fully leveraged the color shuffle functionality,” said Marco Carona, Co-founder and Creative Director, Ey Studio.
