Chemicals industry occupies the second rank in February with 2.5 billion dollars of export value

Commenting on export figures of the chemicals industry in February, Chairman of Board of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association (İKMİB), Adil Pelister said: “Our country grew by 3.2 percent in 2024, achieving a major success despite challenging conditions. Our chemicals industry that is one of the highest exporting industries of Türkiye achieved 30.8 billion dollars in export value last year, growing by 1 percent. We made a good start to this year and achieved an export value of 2.5 billion dollars in value in January. Despite negative effect of the calendar in February, our exports reached 2.5 billion dollars in value, managing to protect our status as the second highest exporter industry. New developments in global

trade, changes in oil prices definitely affect both our export markets and us. On the other hand, reduction of mandatory foreign currency changes of exporters at the Central Bank was a pleasing development for us. Further reduction of the 25 percent mandatory foreign currency change rate would provide convenience to our exporters in terms of financing. We hope to receive this support particularly for chemicals industry that is 70 percent dependent on imports in terms of raw materials. We, as İKMİB continue our activities intensively. In February we organized Cosmetics Industrial Trade Mission to Lisbon, national participation to AEEDC 2025 Dental Exhibition, national participation to Ambiente 2025, Qatar Packaging Industrial Trade Mission, and Stamega Milan Cosmetics Industrial Trade Mission. We will always continue to support our industry in order to ensure our exporters gain new markets and increase variety of their markets, therefore ensure increased exports.”

“Plastics and products” was the highest exported product group in February

Plastics and products became the highest exported chemicals and products product group in February with an export value of 728 million 123 thousand dollars. The second group was mineral fuels and products with an export value of 724 million 609 thousand dollars while inorganic chemicals occupied the third place with an export value of 201 million 10 thousand dollars. ‘Inorganic chemicals’ were followed by ‘essential oils, cosmetics and soap’, ‘pharmaceuticals,’  ‘rubber, rubber products’, ‘paint, varnish, ink, and products,’ ‘miscellaneous chemical products,’ ‘cleaning products,’ and ‘organic chemicals’ in the top ten.

Italy became the highest receiver of exports in February

Italy was the highest receiver of exports in February with 187 million dollars of export value. The top ten receiver of exports in February were Italy, Romania, Holland, Lebanon, Germany, Russia, Iraq, Egypt, USA, and England. The highest increase in February among the top 20 countries was achieved to Greece with 111.70 percent.
